This is one question that I am often asked by newcomers. I am interested in learning about Magik, Wicca and witchcraft, but I have no idea where to begin. So I thought maybe I should share this with you all. Now the first thing I want to say is that Magik, Wicca and Witchcraft is a lifelong study and it is difficult to know where to start. It is not a phase you will grow out of!
The first thing anyone including me will tell you is to “read, read, read” and this is good advice but the market is flooded. And the number of choices available to the beginners is daunting in itself, so it helps to have a starting point there as well.
First, I suggest learning the very basic magikal skills like meditation and visualization. These two will help you to gain control over your mind which is extremely important in any kind of spell work. the daily meditative practice may benefit you in ways you can not even imagine.
Next, I suggest learning a divination method. Any divination, One that calls out to you. Not because divination is so important to magik, but because it also helps to focus your mind and helps you think symbolically. This is also important in spell work.
These are to me foundation skills; While you’re practising these skills, you can read up on different types of magik to see which works best for you.
The next thing you will want to do is establish your sacred space. This can be anywhere.
Once you’ve mastered your foundation and made a ritual space, you have pretty much everything you need to do magik. Of course, spells and ritual formats help too, but you will find those either in your books or they will be taught to you by whatever group you join.
Now, for aspiring Wiccan’s I say dedicate yourself to the Year and A Day study and then cast; Not before it. Trust me, that helps. However, having said that I would also like to say that I am no one to control you. Always remember you are responsible for whatever energy you put out in the universe.
